What are some use cases of the On The Go Push Feature?

There’s a number of different reasons to use the On The Go Push feature! Some use cases of this feature are:

  • Educational Apps: If you have an app for your school, you can use this feature to send out campus-wide announcements. You can also use this to let students know when the next semester is going to start during Summer break.

  • Church Apps: One of the main goals of a church is to stay connected with their attendees. Sending out push notifications for upcoming services, events, or small groups is a great way to keep your members engaged with your church.

  • eCommerce Apps: Any app that sells products depends on their users staying informed. With the On The Go Push feature, you can notify your customers of upcoming sales or new items in stock.

  • Internal Use Apps: Internal use apps can be great for large companies to provide a one-stop solution for information regarding their business.  The On The Go Push feature can help enhance these apps by giving managers a quick and easy way to send out employee-only announcements.

What is the On The Go Push Feature’s primary function and what are the steps to accomplish it?

As we mentioned before, the On The Go Push feature allows you to send push notifications from your phone instead of having to log-in to the App Dashboard. Setting up the feature is as simple as adding it to your app!

One thing that we recommend you do is set up a required User Tag in order to access the feature. Otherwise, anyone would be able to send push notifications from your app using this feature. If you would like to learn how to do this, we recommend that you check out our articles on the Security Tab within features which you can find here, as well as our dedicated articles on our User Management and Tagging systems. Now, let’s go over how to use the On The Go Push feature in your app.

How to use the On The Go Push Feature

Using the On The Go Push feature is extremely intuitive! Here’s how to send push notifications from your app:

Step 1: Give your notification a title in the “Title” field

In order to send a notification, a title is required.  You can give your notification one by tapping on the “Title” field then typing in your notification’s title:

The title is what appears on user’s lock screens when they first receive your notification.

Step 2: Give your notification a message in the “Message” field

Just like the title, your notification needs a message in order to be sent out. Simply tap on the “Message” field:

Then type in your notification’s message and tap on “Done”:

Step 3: Decide if you want to send the notification now or at a later time

Once you’ve given your notification a title and a message, you’ll need to decide if you want to send it out now or schedule it to go out at a later time with these two options:

By default, the “Now” option is selected.  If you want to send the notification out at a later time, all you need to do is tap on the “Later” option and select the time and date that you want to send it out at:

Note: If you schedule the notification to go out at a later time, it will be sent at that time based on the time zone that you created it in. So if you set a notification to send out at 8 PM EST it will arrive on user’s phones on the west coast at 5 PM PST.  Keep this in mind if your app has users in other time zones.

Step 4: Tap “Send”

When you’re ready to send your notification, tap “Send” to send it out immediately or queue it up to be sent at the later time that you specified.

Congratulations! You now know how to send push notifications from your phone using the On The Go Push feature! Next, let’s go over some pro tips that we think will help you with this feature.

What are some Pro Tips you should know to help take your app to the next level?

Having worked with apps for years, we’ve learned a thing or two. So, to both help your app stand out and help you take full advantage of the On The Go Push Feature, here are some tips you should consider.

Pro Tip 1: Use the Required Tags option to prevent unwanted access

As we mentioned earlier, we recommend that you lock this feature behind a required User Tag to help restrict access.  You can do in the Security Tab of the feature in the App Dashboard:

Pro Tip 2: Pair this feature with Geo Fence Push Notifications

Did you know that you can pair this feature with other features such as the Geo Fence notifications feature? With that feature, you can create location based notifications so that when users enter within a certain area’s radius, they’ll automatically receive that notification. You can use the On The Go Push notification feature to encourage users to move into that radius with an enticing notification, then hit them with the Geo Fence notification once they get within range.

Pro Tip 3:  Use the notification history to help prevent redundant notifications

Within the On The Go Push feature, you’re able to see a history of all the notifications that have been sent within the feature by tapping on this button:

This can be helpful when trying to avoid redundant notifications, especially if you have more than one person using the feature to send out notifications.

Pro Tip 4: Don’t Bombard Your Users With Notifications

Nobody wants to be bombarded with notifications on their phone. Quality over quantity is a great mantra to remember when creating notifications for your users.

Pro Tip 5: Create Engaging Notifications

Building on quality over quantity, make sure that the notifications you send out are ones that people want to see. If you would like to learn more about how to create engaging notifications, you can do so here.
